Mishti” a children’s novella written by the 12 year old author Yamini Prashanth, a seventh grade student from Chennai.
This book is about the life of a daring girl named Mishti who grows up
in a middle class joint family in the little town of Bhilai.The story
is a fond reminiscence of Mishti’s childhood days, the simple little town,
her friends, her passions, her courage to pursue her interests, her
accomplishments and eventually a reunion or a return back ‘home’ to Bhilai
of the now grown up friends.
The book is not only a portrayal of life in a small township but also a
suggestion to children to make the best of their wonderful childhood days

Annie Besant became an author at the age of six — she dictated and her mother wrote! With a Masters in Professional Writing from the University of Southern California, USA, she now lives in Chennai and continues to write. Mala’s Silver Anklets is her first book with Tulika. She has also written with Pratham Books and other publishers too.

Honey-coated Saturdays!

Calling all you honeypots to Hippocampus for a little “Bear Picnic”, to celebrate Stan Berenstain’s birthday! Do you know who Stan Berenstain is? He and his wife Jan published the popular series of books called The Berenstain Bears.

 So join Aunty Praba for a picnic with some lemonade and chocolate-chip cookies, while reading some bouncy, rhyming text from the series. And yes, Mama, Papa, Sister and Brother from the Berenstain Bear family will join us there for an afternoon of fun and adventure!

Music and Lyrics!

 If you love music and want to be try out some very cool musical instruments, then pop over to Hippocampus this Saturday for a musical time with Aunty Shema. She’s bringing the Djembe, an egg shaker and the tambourine with her!

Let the Games Begin !!

Hippocampus presents “Hoolympics”, an exciting event that takes you on a journey of the Olympic games.

Meet the Mascots, gather some trivia , fun facts and play games teamed up as the Ancient Olympic team.

So, Come One, Come All, It’s time to unfurl the five ringed flag and wear the Kotinos or the Olive – Leaf crowns !!

A Day With….

This camp focuses on fun visits, stories and activities to introduce children in a friendly way to situations and people they meet for the first time. A visit t o the Bakery, an introduction to a police officer and a trip to the fire station are some of the situations and people they will encounter in this camp.

Mentor: Vandana Gobind enjoys doing storytime ,craft and fireless cooking with kids. Started off as a hobby, but now runs workshops and does birthday events too.

Age Group – 3 to 5 years || Dates –26th to 30th March 2012 || Time – 10:00 am to 12:30 pm

Workshop Fees – Members – Rs.1800 || Non members – Rs. 2000

Camp Explorers !

This camp gives children an opportunity to explore, observe and study nature- inspired ideas through fun outdoor hands-on-activities, alternating with indoor story-hours and enrichment activities such as word games, puzzles and crafts to reinforce the many joys of reading together and love for books!

Campers will get a chance to investigate the outdoors through age appropriate activities based upon the daily theme. (Trees, Birds, Fishes and Human Body )

Praba Ram  – Author and Reading consultant , started Saffron Tree – a one – stop resource that throws light on some wonderful children’s books.

Sangeeta – An interior designer but also a mom,who loves doing craft with her daughter and with other kids too.

Roll out the perfect cookie, and learn to decorate them in beautiful and creative ways. Whip up some yummy cupcakes and ice them with butterscotch and glaze. Get to fill pre -baked tarts shells, make some yummy sandwiches and salsa sauce. Anusha’s concoctions not only taste delicious, but look amazing too!

Mentors: Anusha kaushik, founder of Delicioso, a one stop bake shop conducts workshops for kids. Easy to make, simple recipes and methodologies which will introduce children to the world of baking.

The Great Tale Chase 2010 Bangalore Results!

The Great Tale Chase 2010, Bangalore came to a grand end on the 29th of May at Landmark, Forum Mall. The kids had blast whether its was rolling on the floor for Bharath’s gooey story, running around playing the drama game ‘Leader and Detective’ or rattling their brains for answers to the Book quiz session.


At the end of the event the grand winners were announced and prizes distributed by the Hippocampus Book Council.
